MINNEAPOLIS — The Trump administration is decreasing the variety of immigration enforcement officers in Minnesota after state and native officers agreed to cooperate by turning over arrested immigrants, border czar Tom Homan mentioned Wednesday.
About 700 of the roughly 3,000 federal officers deployed round Minnesota will likely be withdrawn, Homan mentioned. “Given this increase in unprecedented collaboration, and as a result of the need for less public safety officers to do this work and a safer environment, I am announcing, effective immediately, we’ll draw down 700 people effective today — 700 law enforcement personnel,” Homan mentioned throughout a news convention.
Homan mentioned final week that federal officers may cut back the variety of federal brokers in Minnesota, however provided that state and native officers cooperate. His feedback got here after President Donald Trump appeared to sign a willingness to ease tensions within the Minneapolis and St. Paul space.
