An Australian vacationer who suffered a spinal wire harm after falling from a bridge close to a preferred sightseeing space in Hakodate, Hokkaido, has filed a lawsuit towards the town in search of 400 million yen in damages, claiming that the bridge’s railing was dangerously low.
The accident occurred in May 2025 on Shichizai Bridge, a preferred pictures spot close to the Kanemori Red Brick Warehouses, one among Hakodate’s best-known vacationer points of interest.
The 66-year-old Australian man reportedly slipped and fell from the bridge, struggling a spinal wire harm that left him with paralysis in each legs and arms.
The man filed a lawsuit towards Hakodate City on October 1, in search of 400 million yen in compensation for the accidents he sustained.
The lawsuit focuses on the peak of the bridge’s railing, which measures roughly 56 centimeters, considerably decrease than the 110-centimeter commonplace established by the nationwide authorities.
The plaintiff argues that the town’s administration and upkeep of the bridge have been insufficient, contributing to the accident and his extreme accidents.
Hakodate City declined to touch upon the lawsuit, saying it had not but obtained the authorized criticism.
