Shoichiro Toyoda, for Toyota chief, dies age 97

TOKYO, Japan: The son of Toyota Motor Corporation founder Shoichiro Toyoda died on February 14 of coronary heart failure on the age of 97.

He can be the daddy of present chief government Akio Toyoda.

Toyoda, who joined Toyota in 1952, presided over the Japanese automaker’s growth into manufacturing within the United States, the launch of the posh Lexus model and the Prius hybrid, together with the worldwide recognition for pioneering a brand new mannequin for high quality management in manufacturing.

“Shoichiro Toyoda raised Toyota to become the world’s top automaker,” Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stated in a press release of condolence.

Toyoda, who studied engineering as a graduate scholar at Tohoku University, stated he by no means forgot his father’s reminder that “an engineer belongs on the factory floor.”

His first job at Toyota, he recalled, was inspecting vehicles that had been returned on account of defects.

Toyoda was named a managing director at Toyota in 1961 for his work on qc. In 1981, he was named to move Toyota’s gross sales group.

Following a merger of manufacturing and gross sales organizations one yr later, he took over the helm of the newly built-in Toyota Motor Corp, serving as chairman from 1992 to 1999.
