OSAKA (TR) – Japanese authorities have detained a 28-year-old Russian nationwide in Osaka City and extradited him to Germany for his alleged position as a core member of the infamous cybercrime syndicate Qilin, stories TBS News (Oct. 6).
The Qilin group is notorious for launching a relentless wave of ransomware assaults in opposition to main companies worldwide, together with Japanese beverage big Asahi Group Holdings.
According to investigative sources, the unnamed Russian suspect was wished by German authorities for orchestrating a cyberattack on a German logistics firm in September 2022. He is accused of illegally accessing and encrypting the corporate’s company information, subsequently extorting cryptocurrency price roughly 26 million yen in ransom.
Investigative sources point out that German authorities had been looking for the whereabouts of the Russian over an incident that resulted in injury to a German firm.
Japanese investigators tracked down and detained the hacker in Osaka in May of this yr. He has since been formally handed over to German custody to face prosecution.
