The University of Tokyo has chosen professor Yuko Fujigaki, 64, as its subsequent president, making her the primary girl to guide Japan’s most prestigious college.
Fujigaki, a professor on the University of Tokyo’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, will succeed present President Teruo Fujii. Her six-year time period will start in April 2027.
“I want to return to the fundamental question of what a university is and fulfill the University of Tokyo’s role as a symbol of the academic community in Japan and around the world,” Fujigaki mentioned following the announcement.
Fujigaki positioned second in an inside college vote, however was in the end chosen by a range council made up of consultants from inside and outdoors the college.
