New Delhi [India], September 8 (ANI): The seventh Meeting of the India-Japan Joint Working Group (JWG) on cooperation within the discipline of forests was held in Bengaluru on eighth September 2026. The Indian delegation was led by Ramesh Kumar Pandey, Additional Director General (Forests), MoEFCC, Government of India, whereas the Japanese delegation was led by Shimizu Kotaro, Deputy Director General, Forestry Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Government of Japan.
According to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, ‘The assembly deliberated on three key areas of cooperation. Under Tree Outside Forests (TOFs), either side shared experiences on evaluation, administration and genetic enchancment of tree assets outdoors forests. Forest Genetics was mentioned with a give attention to genetic useful resource conservation, tree breeding, improved planting materials and germplasm conservation.’Â
Under Forest Stack, the 2 sides exchanged views on forest stock, forest stock evaluation and geospatial and monitoring applied sciences.
Both sides endorsed the Roadmap for 2027-2031 beneath the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signed in 2015, reaffirming their dedication to deepen cooperation and relations within the areas of forests, biodiversity conservation, analysis and capability constructing. The assembly concluded with the signing of the Minutes of the seventh JWG.
As a part of the programme, each the delegations visited the Institute of Wood Science and Technology, Bengaluru and had interplay with the officers of the Karnataka Forest Department.
Further, the delegations will go to sandalwood agro-forestry farms, a sandalwood depot and processing unit in Mysuru on ninth September, adopted by a go to to Nagarhole Tiger Reserve on the tenth. The discipline visits will present a chance to alternate experiences on sandalwood cultivation in personal farms and wildlife conservation practices. (ANI)
