South Gujarat’s Ridge-to-Valley initiative boosts water conservation, groundwater recharge and rural livelihoods

Surat (Gujarat) [India], June 30 (ANI): South Gujarat’s forests are being reworked into pure water reservoirs beneath the Forest Department’s Ridge-to-Valley mannequin as a part of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain marketing campaign, strengthening water conservation, groundwater recharge and rural livelihoods.

In forest areas equivalent to Umarpada in Surat district, rainwater is being conserved by means of examine dams, forest ponds and contour trenches. Over the previous 5 years, the initiative has led to the development of round 170 examine dams and 215 forest ponds, serving to recharge practically 580 crore litres of groundwater.

Farmers say the water conservation constructions have benefited each agriculture and native employment.
