China Tightens Export Controls on Japan

BEIJING, Feb 25 (News On Japan) –
China has positioned 20 Japanese corporations and establishments underneath export controls, in what seems to be an additional escalation of countermeasures following remarks by Prime Minister Takaichi regarding a possible Taiwan contingency.

China’s Ministry of Commerce introduced on February twenty fourth that it had added 20 Japanese corporations and organizations, together with Mitsubishi Shipbuilding and the National Defense Academy of Japan, to its export management checklist.

Under the measures, the export of dual-use objects—items and applied sciences that may serve each civilian and army functions—from China to those entities can be prohibited. The ministry additionally stated abroad companies can be barred from exporting China-made dual-use objects to the listed entities, though particular objects topic to the ban weren’t disclosed.

In addition, the ministry stated it had positioned one other 20 Japanese corporations and organizations, together with Subaru and Hino Motors, on a monitoring checklist.

For exports of dual-use objects from Chinese corporations to those monitored entities, the ministry stated it might conduct stricter opinions, together with extra rigorous scrutiny of end-use.

A spokesperson for the ministry said that the aim of the sanctions was “to deter Japan’s remilitarization and attempts to possess nuclear weapons,” including that the measures had been “fully justified, reasonable, and lawful.”
