Fire Festival Held at World Heritage Site in Wakayama

Wakayama, Feb 08 (News On Japan) –
A standard hearth pageant during which males wearing white race down steep stone steps carrying blazing torches was held on the World Heritage-listed Kamikura Shrine in Shingu, Wakayama Prefecture, on February sixth.

The occasion, generally known as the Oto Matsuri, is believed to have continued for round 1,400 years and has been designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan.
