SAITAMA (TR) – Saitama Prefectural Police have arrested an officer over the alleged theft of buying and selling playing cards that have been being saved inside a police station as proof final 12 months, stories the Asahi Shimbun (Jan. 8).
Between October 11 and November 25, Toshiyuki Fujioka, a 25-year-old officer within the Criminal Investigation Division on the Hanyu Police Station, allegedly stole 9 buying and selling playing cards from a storage facility on the station.
According to police, the extremely beneficial anime playing cards have been proof from a theft case.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of theft, Fujioka admitted to the allegations. He mentioned, “I spent it all on horse racing. I couldn’t control my urge to gamble.”
A theft of buying and selling playing cards occurred at a retailer in Hanyu City on October 4. During the investigation, which included the arrest of a suspect, dozens of buying and selling playing cards, together with the 9 stolen this time, have been seized and positioned in storage seven days later.
Fujioka was in command of this investigation. On November 25, one other investigator seen that 9 buying and selling playing cards have been lacking.
An investigation by the prefectural police revealed that Fujioka had offered eight of the 9 playing cards to card shopping for retailers in Saitama and Tokyo for a complete of 742,500 yen, with the best value paid for a single card being 275,000 yen. The remaining card was present in Fujioka’s possession.
Fujioka has been working at Hanyu Police Station since September 2023. Chief inspector Katsuya Saito issued a press release saying, “We deeply regret the arrest of an employee. We will take strict action based on the results of future investigations.”
