In Kyoto’s Gion district, geiko and maiko are visiting those that have supported them as a part of the custom often known as Hassaku.
Hassaku refers back to the first day of the eighth month within the previous lunar calendar. Historically, it was a day when farmers would pray for a great harvest and supply items to these they had been indebted to.
In Gion, there’s a customized of constructing courtesy calls on August 1st within the new calendar. Geiko and maiko go to teahouses and greet their masters within the arts.
‘Congratulations. Please look after us.’
Kyoto skilled its eighth consecutive day of utmost warmth on Thursday. Despite the cruel circumstances, geiko and maiko, wearing white make-up and black crested kimonos, made their rounds, expressing their gratitude.
