Natsumi Tsunoda clinched Japan’s first gold medal of the Paris Olympics, triumphing over Mongolia’s B. Bavdorch within the ladies’s judo 48kg last. This victory marks Japan’s first gold on this weight class since 2004, when Ryoko Tani achieved the feat in Athens.
Tsunoda, 31, secured the win towards Bavdorch, 24, making it a historic second as Japan’s five hundredth medal within the Summer Olympics.
