TOKYO, Jun 02 (News On Japan) –
‘Is it possible to continue living in Japan as global warming progresses?’ This query introduced collectively over 100 researchers for the inaugural assembly of a mission devoted to finding out the impacts of local weather change on Japan.
The waters round Japan are experiencing a rise in warmth carried by the Kuroshio Current from the equator, leading to sea temperatures rising roughly twice as quick as in different areas.
Over 100 specialists from greater than 20 universities and analysis institutes, specializing in fields similar to meteorology and oceanography, are collaborating to analyze how Japan’s local weather, climate patterns, and ecosystems would possibly evolve on account of local weather change.
This five-year mission is spearheaded by Eitaro Oka, an affiliate professor on the University of Tokyo. On June 1, the mission’s first assembly was held on the college’s Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute.
Associate Professor Oka said, ‘As an island nation surrounded by the sea, we have enjoyed a temperate climate, abundant rainfall, and rich marine resources. Our goal is to determine if these conditions can continue to sustain us.’
Naoto Nakamura, a professor on the University of Tokyo and chairman of the Japan Meteorological Agency’s Abnormal Weather Analysis Committee, added, ‘I expect that valuable insights into the future impact of global warming on our atmosphere, oceans, and fisheries will emerge from this project. I encourage young researchers to take the lead in this endeavor.’
The mission will make use of quite a lot of strategies, together with offshore observations within the Sea of Japan, off the coast of Tohoku, and within the East China Sea, in addition to laptop mannequin simulations, to forecast future situations.
