Bricks thrown at Japan’s embassy in Beijing

A Chinese nationwide has been detained for throwing bricks on the Japanese embassy in Beijing.

Embassy officers say the incident occurred on August 24, the day Tokyo Electric Power Company started releasing handled and diluted water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant into the ocean.

The officers stated the suspect was captured by police on the scene, and that there was no harm to the embassy’s amenities and no workers have been injured.

Since the discharge started, stones and eggs have been hurled at Japanese faculties in Qingdao, Shandong Province and in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. Officials on the Japanese embassy and consulates-general in China stated they’ve obtained many harassing telephone calls.

Japanese embassy officers have taken steps to arrange for sudden incidents, together with boosting safety presence on the embassy.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin informed reporters on Monday that his nation “protects and ensures the safety and lawful rights and interests of foreign nationals in China in accordance with laws.” He reiterated that Beijing strongly urges Japan to “stop dumping nuclear-contaminated water into the sea.”

Beijing has responded by ordering a suspension to all imports of Japanese sea meals.
