12 stalled hydro-power tasks in Arunachal handed over to Hydro PSUs underneath Union Power Ministry

New Delhi [India], August 12 (ANI): Twelve stalled Hydro Power Projects of Arunachal Pradesh of greater than 11.5 GW had been handed over to the Hydro PSUs underneath Union Ministry of Power on Satuday, a press launch from the Ministry of Power said.

The Union authorities and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh got here collectively to signal Memorandums of Agreement in Itanagar whereby 12 hydro-electric tasks of cumulative put in capability of about 11,517 MW was allotted by the state authorities to Hydro PSUs underneath the Union Ministry of Power.

Singh; Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Chowna Mein; Union Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal, and different officers of the Central and State Governments, the press launch said.

Addressing the occasion, Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy RK Singh mentioned that implementation of those hydropower tasks will contribute immensely to the richness of the state.

“The per capita income of the state would become more than that of Maharashtra and Gujarat. All the developed nations including the USA, Canada, Norway, have harnessed 80 per cent to 90 per cent of their hydropower potential. In India also, the states which harnessed the potential of hydropower have become prosperous. Hydropower is a green source of energy. Its usage will also increase the ground water level and promote growth of florafauna,” RK Singh mentioned.

Signing of those Memorandums of Agreement and allotment of those tasks to Hydro CPSUs shall show to be a big step in direction of harnessing the immense hydro-electric potential of Arunachal Pradesh.

Out of those 12 tasks, 5 tasks of two,620 MW have been allotted by the State Government to North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NEEPCO), 5 tasks of 5,097 MW to Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. (SJVN) and the remaining two tasks of capability 3,800 MW to National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).
