Nearly half of the stone balustrade of the Yabakei Bridge, which is a nationwide essential cultural property over the Yamakuni River in Nakatsu City, Oita Prefecture, was destroyed and washed away because of heavy rain. A metropolis official stated, “The damage was more than we had imagined, and we would like to consult with the national and prefectural governments about recovery measures.”
