Top-seeded Lin Zhu of China outlasted Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Japan Open on Thursday in Osaka.

Uchijima smashed eight aces and saved 14 of 21 break factors to remain within the match. But Zhu, after falling behind 1-0 within the third set, gained six straight video games to complete it off.

Next up, Zhu will face American Elizabeth Mandlik, who beat Canada’s Rebecca Marino 7-5, 3-6, 6-1.

No. 3 seed Xinyu Wang of China eased previous Himeno Sakatsume of Japan 6-4, 6-2. Arianne Hartono of the Netherlands wanted simply 59 minutes to beat Panna Udvardy of Hungary 6-2, 6-0.

San Diego Open

Danielle Collins wanted simply 67 minutes to rout second-seeded Caroline Garcia of France 6-2, 6-3 within the quarterfinals at San Diego.
