Weeks after profitable extra Grammys, Willie Nelson is getting a brand new type of honor: a college endowment in Texas.
The 89-year-old nation music icon, who within the Eighties helped launch the Farm Aid profit live shows, is the namesake of the brand new Willie Nelson Endowment for Uplifting Rural Communities on the University of Texas’ LBJ School of Public Affairs, the college introduced.
The endowment will fund analysis and scholar fellowships benefiting rural and farm communities. The “Always on My Mind” singer has raised greater than $70 million for household farm house owners by Farm Aid, in response to the college, which additionally plans to honor the Texas native at a May gala.
“Willie Nelson is a national treasure who gained fame through his sheer musical talent and won hearts as someone who truly cares about the lives of his fellow Americans,” Larry Temple, Chairman of the LBJ Foundation Board of Trustees, mentioned in a press release.
At the Grammys final month, Nelson’s received greatest nation album for “A Beautiful Time” and greatest nation solo efficiency for “Live Forever.” He has received a dozen Grammys over the course of his profession.
He will obtain the LBJ Foundation’s Liberty and Justice for All award, becoming a member of an inventory of recipients that embody former U.S. presidents, members of Congress and the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
