Toyama, Sep 08 (News On Japan) –
An exhibition and sale of prison-made items crafted by inmates aiming for social reintegration was held at Toyama Prison in Toyama Prefecture.

Now in its forty fifth 12 months, the Toyama Correctional Exhibition showcased roughly 3,200 objects throughout 369 classes from prisons nationwide.

Toyama Prison, recognized for its woodworking applications, featured a mikoshi (moveable shrine) priced at 4 million yen, crafted by seven inmates over the course of about six months.

To date, 5,800 mikoshi have been produced, with round 10 extra commissioned for this 12 months. These mikoshi are extremely fashionable and recurrently featured in festivals throughout the nation.

A customer remarked, “It’s incredibly beautiful, such a magnificent mikoshi,” whereas one other mentioned, “It’s amazing that something so beautiful can be made with such dedication over a long period of time.”

In addition, the exhibition supplied actions equivalent to a character check used upon admission to juvenile detention facilities and a tasting of “prison curry,” a meal served as soon as every week to inmates at Toyama Prison.
