Tomato Spill Shuts Down Tohoku Expressway

TOKYO, Aug 29 (News On Japan) –
A large tomato spill protecting the Tohoku Expressway led to a brief highway closure on the morning of August 28. The spill, estimated at round 13 tons, turned the freeway brilliant crimson.

Eyewitnesses reported that the tomatoes had been scattered over a distance of 40 to 50 meters. The spill doubtless occurred when a car did not decelerate on a curve, inflicting its load to shift and the tomatoes to spill out.

As a consequence, the Tohoku Expressway was closed between the Anshiro Interchange and the Kazuno Hachimantai Interchange, however the highway was reopened by midday. Fortunately, no accidents had been reported.
