Tokyo [Japan], September 17 (ANI): As cricket returns to the Asian Games at Aichi-Nagoya 2026, the Indian girls’s workforce is about to tackle hosts Japan within the quarter-finals of the competitors on Friday, September 18. The Indian males’s workforce will even play Japan within the historic Suzuki Cup T20 International on September 22 on the Sano International Cricket Ground in Tochigi Prefecture.
With cricket gaining momentum in Japan, the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchise Delhi Capitals have partnered with The British School in Tokyo (BST) to develop cricket amongst younger folks in Japan, with the Japan Cricket Association (JCA) supporting the initiative.
As a primary step of the partnership, former India captain and Delhi Capitals Women’s Assistant Coach Anju Jain visited the varsity to conduct cricket workshops for Primary and Secondary college students in September, forward of the Asian Games in Japan. The go to marks the start of a collection of initiatives geared toward bringing Delhi Capitals’ cricketing experience and expertise to college students in Japan, with the partnership set to incorporate additional teaching and participant interactions, technical steerage for varsity coaches, and assist for student-led cricket programmes at The British School in Tokyo, as per a press launch.Â
Jain, a former India worldwide wicketkeeper-batter who captained the nation on the 2000 Women’s World Cup and is a recipient of the Arjuna Award, led interactive periods introducing college students to the basics of cricket whereas sharing insights from her taking part in and training profession.
The initiative is a part of Delhi Capitals’ wider efforts to increase its international cricket footprint and have interaction with rising cricket communities. The franchise already has a previous reference to Japanese cricket by way of pacer Ahilya Chandel, who had joined Delhi Capitals as a web bowler within the WPL 2025. Chandel is certainly one of few bowlers to have taken a double hat-trick in WT20Is.
