Sapporo Festival Heralds the Arrival of Summer

SAPPORO, Jun 17 (News On Japan) –
The annual Sapporo Festival, formally often called the Hokkaido Jingu Grand Festival, signaled the arrival of summer time in Hokkaido with a grand mikoshi procession by way of the center of Sapporo on June sixteenth.

The mikoshi procession, now in its 144th yr, is the spotlight of the ultimate day of the three-day pageant. Crowds gathered alongside the route to observe because the mikoshi—transportable shrines carrying the deities of Hokkaido Jingu—departed from the shrine and made their means towards downtown Sapporo.

Despite being a weekday, the streets had been filled with onlookers. Children and households lined the sidewalks, having fun with the energetic environment and the normal floats often called dashi, which accompanied the mikoshi.

A dad or mum watching alongside the roadside mentioned, “It’s full of energy again this year.” A younger boy merely mentioned, “It’s fun,” whereas a bit lady remarked, “The floats were making a loud ‘don-don’ sound!”

In complete, 9 elaborately embellished floats paraded alongside the mikoshi, forming a vibrant historic spectacle that stretched for over a kilometer. Spectators smiled and waved, embracing the festive temper as the town welcomed summer time in true conventional type.
