GREENVILLE, S.C. — A South Carolina police officer was shot and wounded whereas sitting in his patrol automotive Sunday in what one official referred to as an “ambush-style attack,” and native sheriff’s deputies later shot and killed a suspect in a shootout, authorities stated.
The Greenville police officer was repeatedly shot early Sunday, the town of Greenville stated in an announcement. The officer was handled at a hospital and was launched, the town stated.

Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis described the taking pictures as an “ambush-style attack” in a video from the scene posted on Facebook. Lewis stated that authorities recognized a suspect and pursued his car, resulting in “an exchange of gunfire.”
The suspect obtained “at least one fatal gunshot wound,” the Greenville County Coroner’s Office stated in an announcement. It recognized the individual as David William Lane, 42, of Greenville.
Relatives of Lane couldn’t be reached Sunday for remark.
The Greenville Police Department didn’t reply to questions from The Associated Press a few potential motive for the assault or the identification of the officer who was shot.
