Russia boosts defences close to Japan, accuses US of increasing Asia-Pacific presence

Russia stated on Wednesday {that a} division of its Bastion coastal defence missile programs had been deployed to Paramushir, one of many Kuril islands within the north Pacific, a few of which Japan claims as its territory.

The transfer is a part of a wider strengthening of Russian defences in its huge far jap areas, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu stated, partly in response to what he referred to as U.S. efforts to “contain” Russia and China.

Shoigu was chatting with Russia’s prime military brass a day after President Vladimir Putin and Chinese chief Xi Jinping cemented their “no limits” partnership at talks within the Kremlin with agreements on deeper vitality and navy cooperation.

“To contain Russia and China, the United States is significantly increasing its military presence in the Asia-Pacific region, strengthening its political and military links with its allies, continuing to create a new American security architecture in this region,” Shoigu stated in a video of his tackle printed by Russia’s defence ministry.

Shoigu stated the Bastion system would bolster Russian safety across the Kuril island chain.
