OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have arrested a 66-year-old man for allegedly colorizing the primary “Godzilla” film with out permission and promoting copies, reviews Mainichi Broadcasting System (June 17).
According to the police, Ippei Miyamoto, a part-time employee from Toyonaka City, allegedly offered a DVD of a replica of the 1954 black-and-white “Godzilla” film to a person in Tokyo final November.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of violating the Copyright Law, Miyamoto admitted to the fees. “I sold pirated DVDs even though I knew it was a crime,” he stated.
The crime was found when an worker of a non-profit group that works to guard copyrights consulted police.
Miyamoto listed the DVDs on a number of flea market websites for between round 3,000 and 30,000 yen every. He included such slogans as “using image generation AI to colorize classic black-and-white movies.”
All advised, he’s believed to have offered round 500 DVDs between January final 12 months and May this 12 months, making a revenue of round 1.7 million yen.
