Onoe Baikō VII’s Final Ushiwakamaru

This efficiency of the Kikubatake scene came about in December 1993, on the National Theatre in Tokyo, and it might be one of many final onstage appearances of the nice onnagata and nimaime Onoe Baikō VII (1915 – 1995), 78 years previous on the time of this recording.

The position of Ushiwakamaru on this scene has an extended custom throughout the Otowaya home, being refined by Onoe Kikugorō V throughout the Meiji interval. From him, the position was inherited by Onoe Kikugorō VI, and later by his college students, Onoe Baikō VII and Nakamura Kanzaburō XVII. Onoe Kikugorō VII and Nakamura Kanzaburō XVIII performed the position a number of occasions, however regrettably the brand new technology is but to aim the position.

The remainder of the roles are performed by Baikō VII’s son, Onoe Kikugorō VII (Chienai), Ichimura Uzaemon XVII (Kiichi), Nakamura Tokizō V (Minazuru) and Bandō Hikosaburō VIII (Tankai).
