Iwao Hakamada (87), who was sentenced to loss of life for the homicide of a household of 4 in Shizuoka Prefecture 57 years in the past, will likely be retrialed. It is the fifth case wherein the loss of life penalty has been finalized to bear a retrial, and the earlier 4 instances have all resulted in acquittals. More than 40 years have handed since Hakamada pleaded harmless and requested for a redo of the trial. The motive why it takes so lengthy is the difficulty of the retrial regulation.
