KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa and Gifu prefectural police have arrested six women and men who’re suspected of laundering funds recovered from a fraud ring, studies the Asahi Shimbun (Feb. 4).
According to police Kaori Fukui, 49, from Hyogo Prefecture, and 5 others, are suspected of taking funds from a so-called “tokushu sagi” ring and changing them to cryptocurrency.
According to police, Fukui and the 5 others are suspected of laundering 15.5 million yen from a person in his 60s dwelling in Gifu in August and September 2022.
In acquiring the funds, an individual pretended to be a telecommunications firm worker and falsely knowledgeable him that he had unpaid app charges.
“Your mobile phone ID has been misused and you have suffered losses. You must pay compensation,” the caller falsely stated.
Police suspect that the funds have been transferred to 16 accounts and exchanged for cryptocurrencies, which the six suspets additional transformed into different cryptocurrencies.
A tokushu sagi rip-off, or specialised fraud, is carried out on the phone by a caller impersonating an authority determine or the sufferer’s relative.
