Mexico, Estonia withdraw from 2025 World Expo in Japan’s Osaka

TOKYO, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) — Mexico and Estonia have withdrawn from the 2025 World Exposition to be held within the western Japanese metropolis of Osaka, Japan’s minister overseeing the occasion mentioned Tuesday, citing rising development price of constructing pavilions.

“We have been notified (by the two nations) that they would not participate in the Osaka Expo,” Regional Revitalization Minister Hanako Jimi informed a press convention. “We understand that their decisions are due to financial circumstances at home.”

Meanwhile, 9 nations, together with Denmark and Finland, have determined to take part within the Expo, Jimi mentioned.

The withdrawals of Mexico and Estonia and the additions of the 9 nations will carry the variety of international nations and areas collaborating within the Osaka Expo to 160, up from 153, in line with the Japanese international ministry.

Themed “Designing Future Society of Our Lives,” the World Expo 2025 is scheduled to be held from April 13 to Oct. 13, 2025, on the synthetic island of Yumeshima in Osaka Bay.
