The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) introduced it’s going to present as much as 536 billion yen in subsidies to help mass manufacturing of next-generation semiconductor reminiscence by Micron Technology, a serious U.S. chipmaker, at its plant in Hiroshima.
Micron plans to speculate 1.5 trillion yen at its Higashihiroshima facility to fabricate high-speed, large-capacity reminiscence, with industrial rollout scheduled to start in 2028. METI will cowl one-third of the overall capital funding, aiming to leverage the manufacturing for Japan’s improvement of generative AI and autonomous driving applied sciences.
With the newest funding, whole authorities help for Micron will rise to as a lot as 774.5 billion yen. This ranks third in scale, after subsidies offered to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s (TSMC) Kumamoto plant and to Rapidus Corporation’s new facility in Hokkaido.
