Man Arrested After Igniting Fire on Shibuya Scramble Crossing

TOKYO, Apr 04 (News On Japan) –
A person in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of obstruction after allegedly spreading a liquid and setting it on fireplace on the Shibuya Scramble Crossing in Tokyo on April third.

The incident occurred at round 9 p.m. on April third, when the person poured a liquid from a plastic bottle onto the road on the busy intersection in Shibuya Ward earlier than igniting it and leaving the scene.

The fireplace was extinguished roughly quarter-hour later by responding law enforcement officials and others, with no accidents reported.

A witness stated, “It looked like gasoline had been set on fire, and it flared up suddenly. It was like a blaze.”

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the person turned himself in on the Shibuya Police Station roughly half-hour after the incident and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of obstruction of site visitors.

Investigators consider the person positioned a board on the road and poured the liquid close by earlier than setting it alight with a lighter.

Police suspect the act could have been supposed to attract consideration to a message written on the board, and are persevering with to research the circumstances surrounding the incident.
