Japan’s 1st lunar lander unveiled to media

Japan’s area company has unveiled to the media its first lunar explorer at its area middle in Kagoshima Prefecture. The probe is named the Smart Lander for Investigating the Moon, or SLIM.

JAXA’s unmanned spacecraft will take a look at exact touchdown know-how on the moon and examine its rocks.

The craft is about 2.4 meters excessive and weighs roughly 200 kilograms.

The probe will use image-recognition method to assist it determine craters and different topographical options. JAXA’s purpose is to land the spacecraft inside 100 meters of its meant touchdown level.

The area company had beforehand deliberate to ship the SLIM lander on a H2A rocket in May. But the launch has been postponed to August or thereafter because of the failed debut of Japan’s new flagship H3 rocket.
