New Delhi [India], April 23 (ANI): For the primary time in India, the federal government has performed the first-ever census of water our bodies. The census offered a complete stock of India’s water sources, together with pure and man-made water our bodies like ponds, tanks, lakes, and extra, and to gather knowledge on the encroachment of water our bodies.
The census highlighted disparities between rural and concrete areas and ranging ranges of encroachment and revealed essential insights into the nation’s water sources.
About 2,424,540 water our bodies have been enumerated within the nation by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, out of which 97.1 per cent are in rural areas and solely 2.9 per cent are in city areas.
The prime 5 states when it comes to a variety of water our bodies are West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Assam — which represent round 63 per cent of the entire water our bodies within the nation.
The prime 5 States when it comes to the variety of water our bodies in city areas are West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and Tripura, whereas in rural areas, prime 5 States are West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Assam.
59.5 per cent of water our bodies are ponds, adopted by tanks (15.7 per cent), reservoirs (12.1 per cent), Water conservation schemes/percolation tanks/examine dams (9.3 per cent), lakes (0.9 per cent) and others (2.5 per cent).
It was discovered that 55.2 per cent of water our bodies are owned by personal entities whereas 44.8 per cent of water our bodies are within the area of public possession.(ANI)
