Former Hyogo Governor Motohiko Saito has secured re-election following the gubernatorial election triggered by his resignation.
Saito, 47, ran as an unbiased candidate within the re-election bid. Exit polls and pattern analyses carried out by MBS confirmed his victory.
The election was known as after Saito confronted allegations of office harassment towards prefectural staff. These allegations led the Hyogo Prefectural Assembly to cross a no-confidence movement, leading to his resignation.
This election noticed a report seven candidates vying for the place, with early voting turnout reaching its highest degree ever. By 7:30 p.m. on election day, complete voter turnout exceeded 50% for the primary time in 11 years, reflecting heightened public curiosity.
Attention now turns to how Saito will navigate his relationship with the prefectural meeting, which unanimously handed the no-confidence movement towards him.
