Hokkaido Horse Races Canceled for Third Straight Week as Equine Influenza Spreads

HOKKAIDO, May 06 (News On Japan) –
Horse races on the Banei Racecourse in Obihiro, Hokkaido, have been canceled for the third consecutive week as a result of a widespread outbreak of equine influenza amongst racehorses.

The newest cancellation impacts races scheduled to be held over three days from May tenth. This follows the preliminary suspension on April twenty fifth after infections had been confirmed in three horses.

According to the town of Obihiro, by May third, signs comparable to coughing, nasal discharge, and fever had been noticed in roughly 400 of the roughly 700 horses housed on the stables.

The variety of newly symptomatic horses per day peaked at round 80 on April twenty eighth and has since been on a declining pattern. City officers mentioned they’ll proceed monitoring the scenario and decide when to renew racing based mostly on the standing of the outbreak.
