Exploring Asuka Village: The Cradle of Japanese History

NARA, Mar 07 (News On Japan) –
An investigative group visited Asuka Village in Nara Prefecture, often called “the hometown of Japanese history,” beginning their journey at “Ishibutai Kofun,” a nationwide historic website, after which completely examined “Asuka-dera,” the primary full-fledged Buddhist temple in Japan.

Ishibutai Kofun is alleged to be the tomb of Soga no Umako, and “Asuka-dera,” which was constructed at his behest, homes Japan’s oldest “Asuka Daibutsu” (Great Buddha of Asuka). The Asuka Daibutsu, which Prince Shōtoku can also be believed to have worshiped, is a “national treasure-level” Buddha statue, but it’s not designated as a “National Treasure” however as an “Important Cultural Property.” The group delved into the secrets and techniques of Asuka-dera and the Asuka Daibutsu.
