Colorado Springs officer, suspect injured in capturing, police say

An officer and a suspect have been injured Monday afternoon in a Colorado Springs capturing involving police, in keeping with the division.

The Colorado Springs Police Department first posted concerning the capturing within the 2600 block of East Bijou Street in East Colorado Springs at 2:48 p.m. Monday.

Around 1:30 p.m. Monday, CSPD Tactical Enforcement Unit and the Colorado Parole Fugitive Apprehension Unit have been within the space of East Bijou Street and Balfour Avenue conducting a “fugitive apprehension operation,” CSPD stated. After the operation, CSPD officers contacted a suspicious man in the identical space, CSPD stated. The man ran away, took out a handgun and a shot a CSPD officer, police stated. Two CSPD officers then returned hearth, capturing the suspect.

The suspect and the officer have been taken to an area hospital. The officer sustained “serious but non-life-threatening” gunshot wound, police stated. The suspect is in crucial situation.

The identification of the injured officer and the suspect usually are not being launched right now, CSPD stated. The El Paso County Sheriff’s workplace is assuming duty for the investigation.

This is the second Colorado Springs police capturing in three days.
