In the ladies’s singles, reigning Olympic champion Chen Yufei demolished Pai Yu Po of Chinese Taipei 21-11, 21-12. Wang Zhiyi tamed Saena Kawakami of Japan 21-5, 21-19, and Zhang Yiman edged previous compatriot Han Yue 21-10, 21-17. However, He Bingjiao fell to South Korea’s Kim Ga-eun in straight units.
