Large volumes of floodwater poured into the Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture, following heavy rain on September 7, prompting the large underground flood-control facility referred to as the “Underground Temple” to enter operation.
The Edogawa River Office of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s Kanto Regional Development Bureau launched video exhibiting giant quantities of water flowing into the ability throughout the heavy rain.
The underground discharge channel is designed to soak up extra water in periods of heavy rainfall, serving to cut back flooding within the surrounding space.
