The autumn pink snow crab season has opened on the Sea of Japan coast, with the primary public sale at Kasumi Fishing Port in Kami, Hyogo Prefecture, recording a high worth of 300,000 yen for a single crab on September 4.
Fishing for pink snow crab started on September 1, and eight small fishing vessels returned to Kasumi Fishing Port with their catches on September 3, unloading crabs one after one other.
Kasumi is the one port within the Kinki area the place pink snow crab is landed, and the native catch is marketed beneath the premium Kasumi Crab model.
The season’s first public sale started at 6 a.m. on September 4, with wholesalers competing for the newly landed crabs.
Around 19 tons have been landed for the opening public sale, about 10% greater than final yr, whereas the highest-priced crab offered for 300,000 yen.
Yoshitaka Fukumoto, chairman of the Hyogo Prefecture Crab Pot Association, mentioned the opening catch was encouraging. “The amount landed on the first day was about 10% higher than last year. They are delicious crabs, so I hope everyone will enjoy eating them,” he mentioned.
The pink snow crab fishing season will proceed by the tip of May 2027.
