Students Honored for Catching Shoplifter

KANAGAWA
Police in Isehara, Kanagawa Prefecture, offered letters of appreciation to 2 first-year junior highschool college students on July 10 after they chased a suspected shoplifter for about 250 meters and helped detain the individual.

The incident occurred on July 1 whereas Raimi Izumi and Yukimine Tanaka had been visiting a grocery store.

“I was about to leave when the shoplifter ran away, and someone in the supermarket shouted, ‘That’s a shoplifter,'” Izumi mentioned.

After realizing what had occurred, the 2 college students started working after the fleeing suspect at full pace.

“I started running first, and then my friend passed me and caught the person,” Izumi mentioned.

Tanaka, a member of his college’s soccer membership, shortly closed the gap utilizing his pace.

“I grabbed the person’s shirt and then held the person’s arm,” Tanaka mentioned.

The college students caught the suspect after a chase of about 250 meters, then referred to as retailer workers and handed the individual over to them.

An individual who helped restrain the suspect mentioned the person was “soaked with sweat.”

Although the suspect was detained safely, Tanaka mentioned he later realized that their actions had concerned some danger.

“What we did was a little dangerous,” he mentioned. “Next time, I think it would be better to call 110 or get someone from the store.”
