NTT West has unveiled an autonomous EV bus geared up with an AI avatar able to answering passenger questions, as the corporate goals to assist tackle Japan’s rising scarcity of bus drivers.
The firm just lately partnered with a startup launched out of Osaka University and introduced the self-driving EV bus to the media. The AI-powered avatar is designed to reply to passengers rather than a human driver.
Reporter Maiko Nakajima requested the avatar, “How fast does this bus travel?”
The AI avatar replied, “The maximum speed of this bus is 0 kilometers per hour. It is designed to operate at low speeds with safety as the highest priority.”
As the scarcity of bus drivers turns into more and more extreme throughout Japan, the federal government is aiming to introduce 10,000 autonomous buses and related autos nationwide by fiscal 2030.
NTT West stated it hopes to commercialize buses that passengers can trip safely and comfortably even with out onboard employees.
