TOKYO (TR) – Joi Ito, whose identify has been talked about in latest weeks because of his ties to accused intercourse offender Jeffery Epstein, can be stepping down from his place as Director at Digital Garage, Inc., the tech firm mentioned on Friday.
In the announcement posted on its website online, Digital Garage mentioned that Ito, 59, will retire on the conclusion of the Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders scheduled to be held in June. No cause for the change was supplied.
Last month, the U.S. Department of Justice launched 3 million pages of paperwork on Epstein, who dedicated suicide beneath mysterious circumstances in 2019 after being indicted on expenses together with intercourse trafficking.
Among the paperwork launched have been quite a few emails with Ito, who served as director of the MIT Media Lab till his resignation in 2019 after Epstein’s financial contributions to the lab turned public.
Following the discharge of the paperwork, Ito has maintained that he “did not know that Mr. Jeffrey Epstein had engaged in the malicious criminal acts that have been reported.”
Founded in 1995
Ito co-founded Digital Garage in 1995. It initially centered on digital advertising and net manufacturing. It has since shifted its enterprise towards digital funds.
Since 2023, Ito has served as president of Chiba Institute of Technology. Earlier this month, the the institute mentioned that after conducting background checks into Ito they discovered “no problems” with him serving as president.
Also this month, the hacking convention Def Con introduced the banning of Ito from taking part within the occasion because of his ties to Epstein. The convention is scheduled to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada between August 6 and 9.
