Winter Swans Flock to Lake Biwa

SHIGA, Jan 28 (News On Japan) –
Flocks of whooper swans, typically referred to as “messengers of winter,” have arrived in Nagahama, Shiga Prefecture, delighting onlookers with their sleek look.

Since early final month, teams of the swans—measuring about 140 centimeters in size—have been gathering in rice fields throughout town, sometimes spreading their pure white wings and chickening out in a chic show.

The whooper swans are migratory birds that journey roughly 4,000 kilometers from Siberia every year to spend the winter in Japan.

According to the Kohoku Wild Bird Center, greater than 500 whooper swans have been confirmed round Lake Biwa this season, the place they relaxation and feed earlier than departing for Siberia once more by late subsequent month.
