Russia blocks Snapchat, RIA stories

MOSCOW, Dec 4 : Russia has blocked entry to Snapchat, state-run news company RIA reported on Thursday, citing the nation’s communications regulator, Roskomnadzor.

Authorities mentioned one cause for the ban was that Snapchat had allegedly been used “to organise and carry out terrorist acts within the country, and to recruit perpetrators”.

Earlier on Thursday, Russia blocked Apple’s video-calling app FaceTime as a part of an accelerating clampdown on overseas tech platforms that authorities allege are getting used for legal exercise.

The transfer follows restrictions in opposition to Google’s YouTube, Meta’s WhatsApp and the Telegram messaging service.
