Actor Sigourney Weaver, finest recognized for her iconic function in Alien, will obtain a lifetime achievement award at this 12 months’s Venice Film Festival, an announcement from organizers mentioned.
“An actress of the caliber of Sigourney Weaver has few rivals,” the pageant’s inventive director, Alberto Barbera mentioned.
Weaver is being honoured for constructing bridges “between the most sophisticated art-house cinema and movies that engage with the public in a frank and original way, all the while remaining true to herself”, he mentioned.
Weaver, who will obtain the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement on the 81st pageant on Venice’s Lido, mentioned she would “proudly accept this award in celebration of all who have helped bring these films to life”.
The U.S. actor, who has gained two Golden Globe Awards and a Grammy Award, rose to fame as Ellen Ripley, the protagonist in Ridley Scott’s 1979 science fiction movie “Alien.”
She returned in James Cameron’s 1986 “Aliens” — receiving her first Academy Award nomination — and appeared in two extra movies within the franchise, in addition to the blockbuster “Avatar” and “Ghostbusters” movies.
