Cannes, May 14 (News On Japan) –
The Cannes Film Festival, one of many world’s high three movie festivals, is about to open on May 14. Among the highlights is a big poster that includes a scene from a movie by Japanese director Kurosawa Akira.

Reporter: “Here at the Cannes Film Festival venue, prominently displayed is a scene from a work by director Kurosawa Akira.”

As preparations for the competition’s opening on May 14 proceed, a scene from Kurosawa’s 1991 movie “Rhapsody in August” has been put in as an official poster. The movie, which was submitted to the competition in 1991, depicts the interactions between a lady who survived the Nagasaki bombing, her grandchildren, and her American nephew.

The competition describes the movie as “a reminder of the importance of unity and harmony.”

The Cannes Film Festival will run till May 25, with the Japanese movie “My Sunny Maad” by director Okuyama Hiroshi being showcased within the “Un Certain Regard” part, which is slightly below the primary competitors class.
