The basic assembly of the Science Council of Japan was held in Tokyo on the 2nd, and upon the expiration of the time period of former president Takaaki Kajita, Professor Emeritus Mamoru Mitsuishi of the University of Tokyo was elected as the brand new president. Regarding the problem of member appointment, new Chairman Mitsuishi stated, “We will insist on what must be stated,” and indicated that he’ll proceed to request the federal government to rescind the refusal to nominate members.
