Chicago, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) — Chinese movie Hachiko by Xu Ang is screened on the Chicago Cultural Center on Sunday to a totally booked viewers. It tells a heartrending story of a trustworthy canine who continued to attend for his proprietor at a cable automobile station after the proprietor’s demise.
It is without doubt one of the three Chinese movies screened on the seventeenth Asian Pop-Up Cinema Film Festival. The different two, Ripples of Life by Wei Shujun and The Best is Yet to Come by Wang Jing, have been screened Saturday in a theater in downtown Chicago.
Ripples of Life depicts the odyssey following a Beijing movie crew to a small city in rural China the place everybody appears eager for escape. The Best is Yet to Come is a social drama based mostly on the lifetime of a journalist who uncovered the stigma in opposition to folks with Hepatitis B.
“I enjoyed its elements of creative process and also an insight to the life and culture in today’s China,” stated 30-year-old Nina Padgett from Chicago after watching Ripples of Life.
“It’s based on a true story, so powerful,” stated Ariel Biscan, 49, who was deeply moved by The Best Is Yet to Come.
“It’s so wonderful to see a film from China,” stated Biscan as she works for an organization that does manufacturing in China.
“I find the true story very powerful, and I like the ending that provided so much hope,” stated Collin Kyle, 36, expressing hope of seeing extra Chinese movies.
“We are proud to present three new films from China,” Sophia Wong Boccio, Asian Pop-Up Cinema founder and govt director, informed Xinhua.
The committee chosen movies which have “good quality content” and are “entertaining,” Boccio stated. “The selection paints a wide landscape of contemporary China that are authentic and realistic.”
The competition will current just a few awards and showcase over 20 movies from China, Japan and South Korea. Films from Mongolia, Iran and Afghanistan are screened on the competition for the primary time.
Asian Pop-Up Cinema is a semi-annual Asian Film Festival. The seventeenth season began in early September and can run via Oct. 7 at varied venues in Chicago, the third largest U.S. metropolis.
