1 lifeless as heavy rain lashes SW Japan

TOKYO, July 10 (Xinhua) — A lady in her 70s died after a landslide hit her home in Fukuoka Prefecture Monday as heavy rain pounded elements of Japan’s southwestern area, native media reported.

An emergency name was made round 3:40 a.m. native time Monday that an aged couple was trapped in a home within the city of Soeda in Fukuoka Prefecture because of a mudslide, Kyodo News mentioned, citing native authorities.

The lady was later confirmed lifeless whereas her husband in his 70s was barely injured, it added.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) mentioned Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, logged file rainfall for a three-hour interval of 167 millimeters as of 6:20 a.m. Monday.

As heavy precipitation is predicted from western and jap areas going through the Sea of Japan via Tuesday, the climate company warned of landslides and floods in Fukuoka Prefecture and neighboring Oita.

In the 24 hours via 6 a.m. Tuesday, as much as 200 millimeters of rainfall was forecast within the northern Kyushu area, as much as 100 millimeters within the Chugoku area in western Japan and as much as 80 millimeters within the Hokuriku area in central Japan.
